How is a Medicalfue procedure performed
The Medicalfue procedure begins with a haircut, which kicks off the design of the front line of the implant; together, the doctor and patient determine the original placement of the hair before loss, drawing the hairline with a marker to serve as a guide for the subsequent implant.
Many of our patients bring photographs of themselves before their hair loss to facilitate the doctor’s work and ensure that the patient’s expectations are met.
At the same time we draw blood from the patient to prepare PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, which serves to both preserve and enrich the extracted follicles in a natural solution created by the patient's own body.
The patient is then given anaesthesia in the back of the scalp, also known as the donor site. With the patient completely awake and relaxed, this anaesthesia makes it possible to begin extracting the grafts that will subsequently be implanted in the recipient area.
After the harvest, isolation and counting of follicles into storage containers (hair groupings of one, two, three, or four hairs), the recipient area is given local anaesthesia before small incisions are made using a surgical micro drill less than 0.5 mm in diameter for the permanent implant of the hair follicles.
Our medical team is trained to implant up to 4,500 follicles in a single six-to-eight hour session, which equals roughly 8,000-11,000 strands of hair that provide an absolutely natural density. The incisions must be very narrow to favour the arrangement of the implanted follicles and in order for the grafts to begin receiving blood supply immediately.
The FUE method features countless advantages: it is completely painless, no scalpel or stiches, it leaves no scars or loss of feeling in the donor area…the only drawback is that the patient must spend a few hours in a horizontal position during the surgery, but what are eight hours compared to a lifetime?
Both the donor and receiving area are already healed a mere day or two after the transplant, and if patients following the care and instructions given by our team they’ll soon be looking and feeling their best.
