FAQ about hair transplants
Why and when should a hair transplant be performed?
Based on our experience, our patients come to us first for mainly cosmetic reasons, because your hair is your hallmark, but sometimes alopecia can have psychological affects and even affect people’s personality if their hair loss makes them more insecure.
Hair recovery in most cases is synonymous with confidence and self-esteem and is usually a decision that, once made, only brings positive results for patients.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is painless; the only “pain” involved is when the anaesthesia is administered, although this is perfectly bearable and only causes brief discomfort. This is why this procedure is called “the gentle operation”; the transplant is performed with the patient lying down, listing to music or watching a video, and only rarely do patients experience any discomfort, which disappears instantly with any analgesic.
What tools are used for the transplant?
The tools used for the surgery are:
1. Motorized micro punch with a 0.6 to 0.8 mm tip (in diameter).
The chosen follicle is extracted with this tool.
2. Micro surgical drills less than 0.5 mm in diameter, which is the instrument with which the incisions for subsequent implant are made.
3. The follicular units are transplanted in the recipient area by inserting them into these incisions.
How many sessions do I have to do for a satisfactory result?
Much depends on the situation. 80% of patients will only have to visit Istanbul once, and our doctors make every effort to ensure that patients do not have to return to the city.
Our clinic provides postoperative monitoring of your transplant and can perform as many remote medical consultations as required by sending pictures, completely free of charge.
Can the scalp reject the implant?
With the FUE procedure there is no rejection of the transplanted hair because the hair comes from the patient’s own body, thus preventing rejection.
Will people be able to notice I had surgery?
During the first two or three weeks you will notice the typical scabs on the transplanted hair and the donor area. After this period no traces of the transplant can be seen and the only thing you’ll notice is daily hair regrowth.
At what age is a hair transplant recommended?
The transplant can be performed at any age, provided there is a good donor site. We increasingly perform this procedure on younger and younger patients who want to keep friends and family from discovering their hair loss, as well as on seniors who take
advantage of the progress made by these new techniques to make baldness a thing of the past.
What care do I need after the transplant?
No specific care is required after the transplant, except for the first few days. Wash your head with the shampoo we supply and following the instructions we give until the sixth day after the surgery, and avoid exposure to the sun for the first two months.
How long do I have to stay in the clinic/hospital after surgery?
Our procedure is completely outpatient and you can go home immediately after surgery.
How does the preliminary visit work? If you fill out our “My First Visit” form on www.Medicalfue.com, we’ll contact you to help you send us your photos and medical opinions, all without any obligation or cost on your part.
How much hair is implanted in a square inch of the scalp?
At our clinic we transplant 35 to 40 follicles per square centimetre, although it all depends on the characteristics of the patient’s hair, the donor area and the surface to cover, as well as the texture and quality of the hair, as there are many types.
How long does it take the transplanted hair to grow?
The new hair starts to grow thinner and lighter than the rest of the hair from six to eight months after surgery and then grows longer and in your usual hair colour again.
Is it better to have long or short hair after the transplant?
That is a personal decision. You can wear your hair however you like.
How much does the transplant cost?
Transplants in Turkey are much more affordable than in other countries. Our offer includes three nights in a hotel + transplant + medication for €2,000.
Should I wait until I’m completely bald to become a candidate for this surgery?
Not at all. Current techniques make it possible to place follicles between existing hair, improving and restoring density.
What are the risks of getting the procedure done for someone between the ages of 25 and 30?
There’s no risk, just follow the medical recommendations and indications of our doctors to prevent alopecia of the hair that has not been transplanted.
How long does a hair transplant last?
A hair transplant is generally permanent for most patients, although there are isolated cases in which the patient experiences hair loss due to ageing.
Can I see some photos of the results of other transplants?
If you give us your email address we’ll send you phots and videos of our transplant procedure on other patients and their results.
Can the transplant be useful for women?
The transplant is equally useful and effective for women: our doctors choose the placement of the grafts to avoid damaging the existing hair and the results are excellent.
